Research on the breeding biology and physiology of the European Storm-petrel (Hydrobates pelagicus) began in May 2010 on the island of Mousa. The project is a collaboration between the University of Glasgow and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). Mousa is a small, uninhabited island in the Shetland archipelago. The island is home to the largest colony of storm-petrels in the UK and supports at least 40% of the UK population and more than 2% of the world population. The project will see the first detailed study of the population since the early 1990s and is one of only a handful of studies on this species in the UK.
